John has been with Boyden Shanghai since 2005 and performed multiple searches in the Industrial, Consumer and Professional Services sectors. He has successfully placed senior executives in multi-national companies for China and Asia Pacific operations.

Prior to Boyden, John was an entrepreneur, having ventured into Retail and Food & Beverages businesses. He was the franchisee for two Hong Kong fast fashion brands, G2000 and U2, in Malaysia, from 1993 thru 1998. He also owned a bakery in San Diego and 2 other restaurants in Shanghai from 1999 thru 2004.

In the early stages of his career, John was the Retail Controller of G2000 Hong Kong, where he led and managed the operations of the retail chain; his major achievement being turning around its service delivery. Before that, John was the Director of Sales - Service Establishment and Manager of Travelers Cheques of American Express Card Division in Hong Kong, where he gained much experience in sales management and marketing.

John has wide and varied experience in both the corporate and business worlds spanning the Asia Pacific Rim. He is also an avid golfer and plays to a handicap of 8. He was President of the Harimau (Malaysian Tiger) Golf Team in Shanghai in 2004 and is still an active member of the committee.  He attended the San Diego Golf Academy, San Diego, California in 1998.  John obtained his bachelor’s Art degree in Philosophy, Kent State University, Ohio from 1985.

A Singapore born Malaysian Chinese, John has studied, worked and conducted business in Malaysia, United States, Hong Kong and China. He is fluent in English, Putonghua and Cantonese.
