The Atlanta Market
Atlanta is the capital and the largest city in the state of Georgia with a population of 519,145 in 2007. It is the ninth most populous United States metropolitan area at 5,278,904. Atlanta is a world city that ranks as the 33rd largest in the United States.
As Atlanta has grown and shifted in the global economy it has gone from a regional commerce hub for the south east US, to a truly global city of international influence. Atlanta is one of the fastest growing cities in the US. Between 2000 and 2006 the metropolitan area grew by 20.5%, making it the fastest growing city in the nation. Due to this growth the city is also the central metropolis of the southern United States. It is the largest metropolitan area in the emerging megalopolis known as the Piedmont Atlantic MegaRegion.
