Barry Lyons

Senior Consultant

Barry brings considerable expertise to Boyden in Australia as a subject matter expert in the telecommunications sector. 

He has enjoyed a long career in the telecommunications industry and served for many years as a Board Member of the Australian Telecommunications Users Group (ATUG). 

His early career was with Telecom Australia (now Telstra), working in a variety of Research, Business Analysis and Systems Development roles. 

Following his interest in sports management, in 1982 Barry joined the Sydney Swans (professional football franchise) as General Manager to manage the Swan's relocation to Sydney.

On his return to Melbourne, Barry joined a research, development and manufacturing company involved in the production of telephone information management systems for Telecom and telecommunications vendors. He was initially appointed Commercial Manager and in his final year with the organisation became the National Sales Manager.

In 1990, Barry moved into executive search and selection working for a generalist consulting group specifically to build their telecommunications practice. He subsequently joined a specialist IT&T executive recruitment company as one of their Melbourne partners and developed their telecommunication practice to market leadership which included a particular focus on the Regulatory segment. Following the sale of the company and the completion of his commercial obligations, he joined a search and selection partnership to open their Melbourne office and continue his specialty in senior telecommunications search.

Throughout his career Barry has remained fully abreast of telecommunications industry activities and has developed a vast array of industry contracts while building strong working relationships with major telecommunication companies throughout Australia.

Barry holds a Bachelor of Science with a major in Information Science and a Master of Administration both from Monash University.
