Demography

Argentina is similar to Canada, Australia and the United States in terms that it is a country of immigrants.  Like the United States it is a melting pot of different ethnicities and cultures (both autochthonous and immigrants).  The largest part of the Argentine’s population is derived from colonial-era settlers and of the 19th and 20th century immigrants from Europe, with a minority coming from the local native.

Geography

The Argentine Republic is located in the Southern and Western Hemispheres. Its relative position in South America gives the country a diversity of climates and culture.

Argentina is nearly 3,700 km long from north to south, and 1,400 km from east to west (maximum values). It can roughly be divided into four parts:

1) The fertile plains of the Pampas in the center of the country, the source of Argentina's agricultural wealth

2) The flat to rolling, oil-rich plateau of Patagonia in the southern half down to Tierra del Fuego

3) The subtropical flats of the Gran Chaco in the north

4) The rugged Andes mountain range along the western border with Chile.
