Hartwig Martius joined Boyden in March 2007 after a career in a wide variety of industries and more than 20 years in senior management positions in the Asia-Pacific region.

Hartwig served in Schering AG and Hoechst AG for eight years in the Life Science industry. He was a Board Member and President for Industrial Products for Hoechst Japan K.K. and also chaired the Supervisory Boards of several Hoechst - Mitsubishi JV’s in Japan. After a further eight years restructuring some of the key Hoescht businesses including polyester film, plastics, dyestuff and fine chemicals, Hartwig joined SGL Technik GmbH. He was a Subsidiary President and Chairman of a worldwide unit producing technical products in carbon and graphite for the aerospace and automotive industry.

After relocating to China, Hartwig became Chairman and General Manager of SGL CARBON Ltd., Shanghai and Chairman of several SGL Supervisory Boards in the Asia-Pacific Region. The main focus was to consolidate and strengthen SGL’s position in the region. Hartwig has also worked as a strategy consultant also for clients in the automotive supply industry and in his last position he was President and Representative Director of TMD Friction Japan K.K., a subsidiary he established and developed.

His cross-cultural management expertise in Japan, China and Hong Kong and his strategy consulting experience and extended industry knowledge provides an excellent background for Hartwig as a member of the Boyden China executive search team serving the needs of global clients in China.

Hartwig’s interests include golf, travelling, walking, film and swimming. He is married with one son. Hartwig is fluent in German and English.
