Boyden Names Jeff Pierson as Principal in Washington D.C. Office

Global Firm Deepens Private Equity & Venture Capital, Energy & Power, Government Relations Practices

NEW YORK – Boyden, a global leader in retained executive search, has named Jeff Pierson as a Principal in its Washington office.  The former head of the Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) program at the U.S. Small Business Administration, Mr. Pierson will join Boyden’s Private Equity and Venture Capital practice, and will conduct searches for Partners, C-level, and board member positions across technology, energy/infrastructure, industrial, transportation, health sciences, education, and business and financial service industries.

“We are delighted to welcome Jeff as a new member of our team,” said Tim McNamara, Managing Partner in Boyden’s Baltimore-Washington office.  “As a former fund-of-funds executive, Jeff has first-hand insight into the workings of many investment firms and privately-held companies.  Together with his background in energy and power, not to mention his Washington savvy, Jeff will be a major asset to a broad spectrum of Boyden clients.”

Mr. Pierson said he saw entering the search business as a natural evolution of his work in screening and funding hundreds of private investment teams, and believes that the market upheaval will produce game-changing advantages for funds and portfolio companies with the best leaders.  “If there’s a silver lining in the economic clouds,” Pierson said, “it’s that the pool of C-level candidates has never been stronger.  That’s especially good news for smaller firms who live or die by the quality of their leaders.  The challenge is to make sure there’s a durable fit, which is where the validating process of an established firm like Boyden comes in.”

According to Jim Parsons, Managing Director at RFE Investment Partners in New Canaan, CT, “Executive recruiting is what Jeff Pierson has trained for many years of his professional life to do. Jeff cares deeply about helping companies and investors find the right blend of people who work well together, and he has the credibility and networks to be an effective representative of many different organizations.”

Prior to joining Boyden, Mr. Pierson was the founder of Washington-based consulting firm Pierson Capital Advisors, where he represented secondary private equity investors and small to mid-market companies.  He earlier worked in the global energy and power business as a technology developer, financial advisor, and market analyst, and has served in both the White House under President George H.W. Bush and as a legislative aide in the U.S. Congress.
