Panasonic CEO highlights strong sales in Europe
Despite the sustained economic crisis in Europe, global electronics company Panasonic has been enjoying relative success here. As Laurent Abadie, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Panasonic Europe said, 'We are doing quite well in Europe in consumer electronics'. Unlike many of its neighbours in the region, Panasonic Europe’s sales did not decline in the fiscal year which ended in March, and it has no plans to cut staff within the next 12 months.

While the executive hiring has not yet been made public, social media giant Facebook has hired former Apple executive Richard Williamson. As Director of Engineering, Williamson will manage Facebook’s expanding mobile software group as it makes a push to bolster its presence on mobile platforms – one of the most promising areas for growth, and a strategic priority for CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Apple let Williamson go last year following the mapping software debacle.

Global biopharmaceutical company Bristol-Myers Squibb announced that Francis Cuss will succeed Elliott Sigal as Executive Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer on July 1 after Sigal retires. Cuss joined the company as a Senior Vice President in 2003, and has demonstrated ability to drive significant change and create value at the SVP level. Bristol-Myers Squibb has consistently been rated a leading research organisation based on cycle times, success rates and costs.

The world’s third largest platinum producer, Lonmin Plc., has hired Ben Magara for its top executive job. Magara is currently head of engineering and capital projects at Anglo American Platinum Ltd. (Amplats), but will join Lonmin on July 1. He faces formidable challenges, as Lonmin is undergoing a restructuring meant to lower costs following a $698 million annual loss in 2012. Magara has 22 years of experience in the South African mining industry.
