Executive Brief

Change Management Advisor
BCI

June 2021

Essence of the Opportunity

With nearly $200 billion of assets under management (AUM), British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is one of the largest institutional investors in Canada. Since its inception in 2000, BCI has grown significantly and is now regarded as one of the most influential financial institutions globally with a diverse and global mix of assets. The organization has transformed over the years from a passive investor focused on traditional asset allocations to an active, in-house asset manager with sophisticated strategies operating within an increasingly complex investment environment.  During this time, the company has more than doubled in size to over 600 employees.

The intensity and pace of change at BCI led to the creation of a formal Change Management function three years ago and since then, the function has been able to demonstrate significant value in supporting change initiatives across the organization. While the organization has traditionally relied on external consultants, the continued demand for services has led to the creation of a new role of Change Management Advisor to join this small but high performing team.

Reporting to the Manager, Organizational Change Management, the Change Management Advisor is responsible for providing organizational change management (OCM) for assigned projects and business initiatives. The individual will play a key role in ensuring BCI meets desired business outcomes by providing sound OCM support and guidance. As part of the OCM team, the Change Management Advisor works with business owners, project leads and other stakeholders to identify and address people, organizational, process and technology impacts and is responsible for development of OCM plans and hands-on execution of identified OCM activities. As the OCM function is still evolving, this will be an opportunity for the Change Management Advisor to also play a key role in shaping and continuing to build out this key function.

The ideal candidate is an experienced change management specialist with specific experience leading, developing and executing change management programs in dynamic complex organizations. They will bring both a strategic and operational mindset with strong communication, particularly writing, skills, technologically adept and with project management expertise. In this impactful role, the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization will be critical for success. Specific PROSCI or other equivalent change management certification will be a significant asset.

Based in Victoria, BC, this is a unique opportunity to take on a highly influential and impactful role supporting the change management agenda of one of the most influential organizations in Canada going through unprecedented global growth and transformation.
