Executive Brief

President & Chief Executive Officer
Encorp Pacific (Canada)

February 2022

Essence of the Opportunity

Encorp Pacific (Canada) (“Encorp”) is the not-for-profit stewardship corporation that manages the recycling of used beverage containers and other designated materials in British Columbia. Having beverage container management as its core business and operating within a mandated deposit/refund system for used beverage containers, Encorp administers a consumer friendly and cost-effective system under the Return-It™ brand to recover recyclable products from BC residents and ensures that they are diverted from landfills. In 2020 Encorp recycled over one billion beverage containers through its network of 174 depots representing a 76.4% recovery rate and generating cash flow in excess of $100 million. Since its inception in 1994, Encorp has established itself as one of the leading product stewardship organizations in North America. In 2021, Encorp continued aggressively to expand its consumer-friendly Express Return system network. As of February 1, 2022, Encorp's role further expanded as milk and plant-based beverages became part of the deposit system in BC.

The previous President & CEO resigned after four years in the role to pursue other career opportunities, so Encorp’s Board of Directors is seeking an experienced and progressive executive leader to steer the organization through its next phase of evolution. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be responsible for providing leadership, general supervision, and management of the operations of Encorp on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the strategies, plans and policies approved by the Board. In collaboration with the Board, the new CEO will develop new creative strategies to ensure the ongoing success of Encorp in its dynamic industry, primarily focused on growing the recovery rate in a cost-effective manner, while also introducing innovation and technology to streamline collection and logistics and building positive relationships with the corporation’s numerous stakeholders.

The successful candidate will bring experience in a senior leadership capacity in a complex industry involving extensive government and stakeholder relations, ideally with some connections or parallels to stewardship, recycling, waste management or other related industries. Future-oriented with solid strategic thinking skills, candidates will also bring operational expertise and be excited and inspired by the prospect of bettering British Columbia’s environment through leading edge, and responsible industry product stewardship programs.
