REVOLUTIONIZING HEALTHCARE FOR A HEALTHIER, MORE EQUITABLE WORLD
For more than 100 years Women’s College Hospital has been developing revolutionary advances in healthcare. We continue to build on this rich legacy established by our founders – courageous pioneers who refused to accept the status quo. Today our hospital culture is still shaped by leaders, healthcare providers and community members who break down barriers and push the boundaries of traditional healthcare in the pursuit of equity and excellence for the 21st century.
Women’s College Hospital is an academic hospital and a leader in health for women, health equity and health system solutions. As a fully ambulatory health service organization, ours is also a hospital designed to keep people out of hospital. We are developing ground-breaking innovations that aim to improve the management of chronic disease in the community, including through a focus on virtual care. We advocate for health equity because we know that a healthy society requires a level playing field where everyone has access to timely, high quality, efficient and compassionate care.
In the next great era for Women’s College Hospital, we are building on an ambitious vision - to revolutionize healthcare for a healthier and more equitable world. We are achieving this bold objective as a unified organization, in partnership with our diverse communities – patients, family members, thought leaders, philanthropists, innovators and disruptors in government, community, academia and the private sector.
We see a future of Healthcare Revolutionized – where we are setting a new pace for radical
redesign in healthcare. Like our founders, we aim to shift the balance of power, to confront gender and social inequities that threaten people’s health, to bring virtual care into the mainstream and to reimagine how ambulatory healthcare services are delivered so we can provide substantial health system solutions and close the health gaps for all.
We transform healthcare and co-create the best health possible through innovative care, research, policy, education and system solutions
Healthcare revolutionized for a healthier and more equitable world
Together, we are building a movement to revolutionize healthcare. Our core values drive this movement.
Equity
Our value of equity has its roots throughout our history of advancing health for women and women in leadership. Today we strive to have an organization that reflects the diversity of the world we live in and offers the best healthcare options for everyone in it. We believe that just and equitable public policies are foundation of good health.
Quality
We believe that only through continuous quality innovation and improvement will we impact positive change. We employ and create new, evidence-based practices and processes to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all who work at and visit the hospital.
People
From our patients, staff, clinicians, volunteers, donors and partners, to citizens of our community, we seek out, recognize and value everyone’s knowledge and experiences. We interact with a spirit of collaboration and respect.
Courage
We take pride in having the courage to challenge the status quo. In fact, we see it as a duty and obligation. We consider how we contribute beyond our own organization, department or individual interests. Courage also means that we report both failures and successes with discipline to accelerate learning on how best to improve and to respond as quickly as necessary to support the transformation of healthcare.
Collaboration
We always look beyond our walls, and together with our communities and partners we work as a cohesive unit within and beyond the healthcare system towards a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Women’s College Hospital Strategy 2018-2022: Healthcare Revolutionized identifies four (4) Strategic Goals (listed below). To view the plan in it’s entirety, click here.
As a member of the executive team, the Vice President will bring leadership in research, innovation and education to the achievement of all four strategic goals, set out in the organization’s exciting strategic plan.
Our academic mission is at the core of all we do. By advancing research, innovation, and investing in the education of the next generation of health professionals we believe we can address the quadruple aim of improved population health, improved patient and provider experience, at sustainable costs to the system. In addition, we are looking to aggressively advance a Learning Health System framework in the organization, bringing together researchers, innovators, clinicians, educators, community partners and advocates to work together in core areas of the hospital’s work.
Education
Women’s College Hospital is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and is a teaching site for medical students, physicians, health care professionals and other learners. We are committed to delivering a world-class educational experience for our learners achieved through training, professional education and health education research. The WCH education department’s aspirational vision is: Inspiring Minds. Revolutionizing Care. Transforming ambulatory care education to achieve better outcomes for patients, learners and educators now and in the future.
WCH is proud to be the destination for over 2300 learners from approximately 20 different health professions. Of these, over 2100 of our learners are medical trainees, while the others represent a variety of health disciplines, administrative, professional and Master’s students.
The Centre for Ambulatory Care Education (CACE)
The Centre for Ambulatory Care Education (CACE) at WCH is identifying emerging best practices in ambulatory care education. CACE is an extra-departmental, shared unit between Women’s College Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. It also maintains strong links with the other Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) hospital sites.
Working closely with global and local partners, CACE’s network of scientists and clinicians create educational tools, techniques and strategies designed to enhance ambulatory care education. Our goal at CACE is to create and sustain a network of scholars, educators, practitioners and learners who are actively engaged in education scholarship and scientific inquiry and theoretically grounded innovation. CACE promotes the academic development of staff and physicians at WCH and supports the collaboration of research teams within practice environments to better understand how the provision of high-quality education can enhance patient care.

Women's College Research Institute (WCRI) is a multidisciplinary research institute based at Women's College Hospital. WCRI is one of only a few hospital-based research institutes worldwide to focus on women's health. Our scientists, all of whom have academic appointments at the University of Toronto and most of whom are also active clinicians at WCH, conduct research that improves the health of women, helps people prevent and manage complex chronic conditions, and delivers innovative health system solutions.
The vision of WCRI is to lead innovative, high impact health research that changes practice, changes policy, and changes lives.

Innovation
The Women’s College Hospital Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV) is a living laboratory for health system solutions in Ontario and beyond.
Whether it’s evaluating an app that allows patients with chronic kidney disease to order supplies and manage dialysis at home or using big data to improve medication safety for vulnerable communities, WIHV is responding to today’s most pressing health issues through research insights and solutions.
Working with stakeholders inside the health system and innovators from the private sector, WIHV identifies the ground-breaking approaches that address gaps in our healthcare system. Their work supports solutions that make care more convenient, more effective, and less costly to deliver.
