Boyden is pleased to share the CEO appointment news

TORONTO, ON  June 19, 2019  – Following an extensive search, today Waterfront Toronto announced that effective August 19, 2019 George Zegarac will join the Corporation as Chief Executive Officer. 

Board Chair Stephen Diamond highlighted Mr. Zegarac’s distinguished record of public service in multiple portfolios within Ontario’s public service, including realty and infrastructure, “ George was instrumental in brokering the historic $1.2 billion investment made by governments to unlock the Port Lands for development, and brings a proven record of collaboration needed to get things done.” 

Mr. Zegarac comes to Waterfront Toronto after 33 years (11 as Deputy Minister) with several portfolios in the Government of Ontario, including the Ministries of Infrastructure, Environment, Health, and Education. He has provided leadership and developed strategy for the province’s real estate portfolio, along with an outstanding record of collaboration with stakeholders, governments, NGOs, and the private sector.   

“From my time with the government of Ontario, I have a particular appreciation for the incredible work of Waterfront Toronto over the past almost two decades, as well as its potential,” said Zegarac. “I am honoured to have the responsibility of leading an organization with such an important obligation to the public, and the future of Toronto.” 

Waterfront Toronto Board Chair Stephen Diamond also took the opportunity of this announcement to recognize the dedication and leadership of Interim CEO Michael Nobrega. 

“Michael Nobrega has provided Waterfront Toronto with strong, stable, leadership since stepping in as Interim CEO in July of 2018. He has led the development of our five-year strategic plan, which will guide how we build on our success, towards a better waterfront community for everyone,” Diamond said. 

Waterfront Toronto continues to move ahead on several important and exciting projects for Toronto and looks forward to having Mr. Zegarac lead the team through such an exciting time for the city and the organization.
