Canadian Mental Health Association – Calgary Region’s (CMHA Calgary) Board of Directors are more than pleased to announce the appointment of Sara Jordan as Executive Director, effective July 20, 2020. After a thorough recruitment process led by Boyden Canada, which saw many strong candidates, CMHA Calgary is excited for Sara to lead us during this time of change.

“CMHA Calgary has become a community leader in mental health and substance use concerns by meeting clients’ and families’ needs, be that through supported housing, Recovery College classes or support programs such as our suicide bereavement counselling.  We are very confident that, with her skills and experience, Sara will lead CMHA Calgary to new levels of collaboration and leadership within our community,” says Dr. Michael Trew, President of the Board of Directors at CMHA Calgary.

Sara comes to CMHA Calgary after working in the seniors living industry, as Executive Director of The Manor Village Life Centers. Previous settings include Alberta Health Services, University of Calgary and the business consulting industry. Sara spent many years working with Indigenous populations across Alberta and has a passion for utilizing trauma-informed and culturally competent approaches in services design and delivery. She has experience collaborating with government, community organizations, academia and health care organizations across local, provincial and national levels. In her role at CMHA Calgary, Sara will form collaborative partnerships and guide our organization to be the nationwide leader and champion for mental health. She will also explore how CMHA Calgary can provide social return on investment for our community.

“CMHA Calgary is an organization that is able to deliver innovative mental health services in groundbreaking ways to best meet the needs of clients,” says Sara. “I look forward to joining CMHA Calgary to continue to advance successes, and to capitalize on innovative ways to improve mental health, support recovery, and build resilience.”

Under the leadership of Sara, CMHA Calgary will continue to be leaders in mental health in Calgary, all while operating under our recovery model. This model focuses on empowering individuals and building their strength, resiliency, and, hope for a meaningful life.
