Boyden is pleased to share the appointment news of Peter Sweeney, a recruitment led by Andrew Dumont

Waterloo Region – Mar 28, 2022

The Region of Waterloo is pleased to announce that Peter Sweeney will join the organization as Commissioner of Community Services.

The Region’s Community Services Department shapes the future of the community by providing services for children, older adults, and those who need help finding work, homes that are affordable, emergency shelter or income support. In his role, Peter will advance the organization’s priorities of creating a compassionate, equitable place to live where the voices of all residents are heard.

“In recruiting for this position, we looked for a compassionate community builder who can continue to grow partnerships with community to make a positive impact across Waterloo Region,” says Chief Administrative Officer Bruce Lauckner. “Peter is a respected community and people leader and I am thrilled that he is joining our team.”

“I am humbled by this opportunity to serve this community and look forward to walking alongside a great group of people at the Region as well as community partners,” says Peter Sweeney. “Together we will continue to positively impact all those who need their regional government to show up for them with humanity and grace.”

Peter is currently the CEO of YMCA of Three Rivers, where he oversees an organization of 1,400 staff and 600 volunteers. He brings significant leadership experience to the Region of Waterloo and was President of both St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation and St. Joseph’s Health System International Outreach Program.

Peter will join the Region of Waterloo on June 13, 2022.
