Mentorship, sponsorship and guidance cited as tools for women to help others achieve personal and professional goals throughout their careers
CHICAGO, November 9, 2017 – Boyden’s President and CEO, Trina Gordon, recently spoke at the fifth annual Leadership Forum, hosted by FTI Consulting’s Women’s Initiative (WIN). The forum featured a panel of accomplished CEOs in support of the theme “Empowered Women Empower Women: Building the Ladder to Success.”
Gordon discussed her own early career, professional challenges, and how women can better support each other as they move up the organizational ladder. During the panel discussion, she highlighted that “all women must ensure their voices are heard and that they consistently demonstrate their skills and talents. When women offer a helping hand to other women, they both benefit.”
While women continue to represent a larger portion of the labor force and earn more college degrees than men, the share of women in leadership and executive roles is growing at a much slower rate. “It’s important for women to feel empowered not just at the senior executive level but throughout their career,” said Gordon.
The event was moderated by Heidi Stevens, columnist for the Chicago Tribune. In addition to Gordon, panelists included:
- Shari Runner, President and CEO of the Chicago Urban League, a leader in building strong, sustainable African-American communities and creating opportunities with the power to transform people's lives.
- Theresa E. Mintle, former CEO of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and civic engagement consultant helping businesses make impactful contributions to Chicago’s civic community.
- Chris-Tia Donaldson, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Thank God It’s Natural (tgin), a manufacturer of natural hair and skincare products currently sold at Target, Whole Foods, Sally Beauty, CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens.
- Katrina Markoff, Founder and Chocolatier of Vosges Haut-Chocolat, which was recently named one of the 10 Best Chocolatiers in the World by National Geographic.
