A New Path Forward to Enhance Consumer Protection and the Effective Regulation of Immigration Services
BURLINGTON, ON, May 30, 2017 - The Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) is pleased to announce the immediate appointment of Stephen Ashworth as President and CEO.
"We are pleased to welcome Mr. Ashworth," said Christopher Daw, Chair of the ICCRC Board of Directors. "His extensive background will be invaluable to the Board, staff and Members as we enter a new phase in our mandate to protect the public."
As a recognized leader, Stephen brings a diverse background with extensive organizational, strategic and leadership skills, which he gained working in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors in Canada and globally. In addition to owning and operating several businesses, Stephen is an accomplished author and recognized leader on issues relating to leadership, education and business. In 2013, Stephen received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his dedication and commitment to helping prepare youth for their future success.

"On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank Lawrence Barker, ICCRC's Registrar, for stepping up and taking on the leadership role as the Acting CEO during the search process," said Daw.
ICCRC was designated by the government of Canada in July 2011 to regulate Canadian immigration, citizenship and international student advising services. With a mandate to protect consumers of immigration services through effective regulation of immigration and citizenship consultants and promotion, ICCRC currently regulates approximately 4000 Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCICs) in Canada and abroad. In Stephen's role as President and CEO, he will report to the Board of Directors and will oversee the operations, administration, organization, and efficiency of the Council and he will lead the execution of ICCRC's strategic direction.

About ICCRC
Designated by the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada, ICCRC is the national regulatory body that governs Canadian immigration and citizenship consultants as well as international student advisors. The Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and the Citizenship Act stipulate that persons, who provide immigration or citizenship advice for a fee or other consideration, must be regulated by ICCRC as Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCICs) or Regulated International Student Immigration Advisors (RISIAs). Exceptions are members in good standing of provincial or territorial law societies or the Chambre des notaires du Québec.
