HR executives and other experts share their views on how the role of Chief Human Resources Officer is taking on greater influence within the C-suite and board.

Part 2 of our three-part series on the evolving role of the Chief Human Resources Officer examines the growing influence of HR executives, particularly in strategic decision-making. While responses varied by region, sector and other factors, 75% said the CHRO will increasingly take on strategic roles as a key resource and counselor to the CEO, C-Suite and board.

This shift will alter the function, with the CHRO getting more involved in human capital strategy, and to a lesser extent, overall business strategy. A majority – 89% – believe the role is becoming a stepping stone to executive leadership positions such as CEO. This view is especially prevalent in professional services and education, where people are the business’s main asset.
