Sisters of Notre Dame

The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur was founded in France by Julie Billiart in 1804. This was the beginning of a mighty global ministry of women educating young girls. Today, 3,000 Sisters work on five continents. In 2015, the Sisters of Notre Dame celebrated 175 years of service in the United States, where they are recognized as outstanding educators. Today, NDA students are connected with each other around the world and focus on social service and justice. St. Julie died on April 8, 1816 and was canonized on June 22, 1969.

Leadership Spotlight

Principal
Marilyn A. Tencza

With her extensive teaching and leadership roles in education, Dr. Tencza brings her love of and commitment to excellence in education to her alma mater. “I am ready to dedicate myself to the important work of leading our vibrant Catholic girls' academy, which is very close to my heart.  As an alum of Notre Dame, my career has come full circle back to this very special and important place. I am thrilled to return and am ready to pursue the next phase of strategic growth aligned with the Hallmarks of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur,” said Dr. Tencza.

With more than 25 years of experience in education, Dr. Tencza has served in the capacities of Superintendent, Curriculum Director, Principal, Assistant Principal, and Teacher. Dr. Tencza has served as Adjunct Faculty at Boston College and Worcester State University, guiding new teachers.  Her experience and success include guiding school accreditations, creating diversity and inclusion initiatives, and overseeing capital projects.  

Dr. Tencza brings outstanding values-centered leadership skills, as well as a strong personal and professional commitment to educational excellence, diversity and inclusion, all-girls education, and collaboration.  “I have watched Notre Dame for many years with awe as the faculty and administration have developed creative new initiatives while continuing to challenge the students academically and personally. Now more than ever, girls' schools are needed so that young women can find their voices and develop to their fullest potential. I am honored to bring my experience to add to the successful path underway toward growth and sustainability.  We must promote to the central Massachusetts community that this treasure of Notre Dame is an option of excellence for our young women,” said Dr. Tencza.

The Role - Chief Advancement Officer

Advancement:

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to elevate giving through increased annual support and by re-engaging alumni, parents, grandparents and friends. The incoming CAO will have the ability to create a best practice for major and legacy giving, while working with the existing team to move the needle on philanthropic support to the school. The CAO will create a path for donors to engage in a campaign for the future of NDA and beyond.

Position Summary:

Notre Dame Academy seeks a full-time, year-round Chief Advancement Officer. Reporting directly to the Principal and serving as a member of the senior Administrative Leadership Team, the Chief Advancement Officer will oversee a fully integrated advancement effort for NDA. Joining a personal community that honors diversity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the overall strategy, design, and coordination of philanthropy and engagement for an advancement program that is strong and embraced by the NDA community. In addition, the Chief Advancement Officer will manage the Donor Database and Alumnae Relations Manager, Major Gifts Officer, and Marketing and Communications Specialist.

The Chief Advancement Officer will have proven competency in campaign design and implementation, annual giving, constituent relations, and major gifts, and planned giving, with a particular emphasis on increasing alumnae and parent engagement. The successful candidate will be a strategic leader who is enthusiastic about NDA’s fundraising potential. This leader will inspire the entrepreneurial and creative initiatives needed to maximize results and broaden the number and nature of relationships across the school, all levels, and in the community in order to increase philanthropic support for school priorities.

The candidate will present outstanding leadership and management competencies and the ability to partner and work well with a Board of Trustees, senior colleagues across the school, staff at a variety of levels, and other volunteers. The Chief Advancement Officer will be an experienced, talented fundraiser and relationship builder ready for a position where innovation is encouraged, and growth is necessary.

Jill Coran started her career as a recruiter. After many successful years, she naturally moved into Human Resources Management. Jill worked early in the dot com, biotechnology, and media fields. After taking time off to raise her daughter and twin boys, she went back to work for a multimedia company as their Human Resource Manager. In addition to recruiting, Jill negotiated and administered benefit programs, as well as managing employee relation issues. Jill’s passion has always remained connecting top talent with local and national organizations.
