About Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation (CSHF)

For more than 40 years, the Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation (CSHF), has been providing progressive philanthropic support for the Children’s Specialized Hospital (CSH).  CSH has a long history of helping children in need since it was founded over 130 years ago in New Jersey.  Its Vision is a world where all children can reach their full potential despite disabilities and illness.  The Mission is to be the preeminent provider of specialized healthcare services for infants, children, and young adults and the Foundation advances this ambition.

Since 1985, the Foundation has raised over $250 million to support the growth of the Hospital from a single facility to a system of 15 sites offering specialty inpatient, outpatient, and long-term care services to more than 38,000 children annually. This track record and the relationships that made it possible, offer a unique opportunity for the Foundation’s next President and Chief Development Officer to broaden its reach and the number of families it serves.  There are an estimated 200,000+ children in New Jersey alone who could also benefit from CSH’s expanded service offerings.

"All of our trustees have felt, for years, that Children's Specialized always focuses on its mission - to help children and their families in the most difficult of circumstances to be able to lead healthy, productive, and positive lives."

The Foundation’s endowment allows for the impactful operation of the Foundation and the ability to invest wisely in programs and projects designed to advance innovation, care, and facilities.

The rich history of philanthropy and the bright future enabled by the Foundation’s support, make this an incredible opportunity to have an impact on the lives of children and their families.

Information about the hospital and services provided can be found at the end of this prospectus.

As an independent 501 (c) (3) organization, the Foundation is guided by a highly engaged, mission driven Board of Trustees consisting of women and men from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise.  Many of the most important Foundation relationships for the President and CDO are represented by its Board members.

The Foundation is a wholly independent organization where the President and CDO and staff work with Hospital leadership toward a common purpose without any direct/indirect reporting relationships.

The strength of the Board, its relationships, its independence, and well-established strong asset base are all indispensable elements of the Foundation’s sustained success. These vital dimensions foster an entrepreneurial spirit which enables leadership to successfully look at challenges and opportunities in fresh and innovative ways. One way this is manifested is the Board's strategic visioning process.

There are three pillars articulated in the Foundation’s Strategic Vision to support future and sustained success:

PILLAR I

For Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation to be recognized as a preeminent voice for children’s healthcare philanthropy and one of the most trusted places to support pediatric healthcare in New Jersey and beyond.

PILLAR II

For Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation to identify and pursue transformative philanthropic opportunities that can help deliver on, and contribute ideas to, the strategies, goals, and plans of Children’s Specialized Hospital.

PILLAR III

For Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation to be a recognized leader in healthcare philanthropy, board performance, and fundraising effectiveness through a focus on talent management, a robust data strategy, and a commitment to excellence at every level.
