Executive Brief

President & Chief Executive Officer
Institute for Research on Public Policy (IRPP)

January 2021

A Message from the Chair and Vice Chair

On behalf of our Board of Directors, thank you for your interest in the IRPP. The President & CEO role is a great opportunity to lead a highly respected partner and contributor in the public policy research community.

From its foundation almost 50 years ago, the IRPP has played a key role in conducting research and advancing and disseminating knowledge that supports national public policy. Today, the IRPP is being called on to inform some of the most complex and pressing policy issues facing Canadians, and the world.

The IRPP’s success has been and continues to be a function of its highly engaged board, an empowered team culture, a clear and focused vision, a reputation for research excellence, and the strength of its relationships with policy makers, researchers, government partners and industry leaders and influencers.

To say that our Board is proud of the IRPP team and the dedication they have shown over the past eighteen months alone, would be an understatement. Notwithstanding the global pandemic and the disruption it has brought about, they have maintained our momentum without missing a beat – they established the Centre of Excellence on the Canadian Federation supported by a $10 million contribution from the Federal government; they renovated and expanded our beautiful offices in Montreal; they pivoted, with energy and adroitness, to a new virtual workplace and reality; and, on the research and Policy Options front, the team released 28 publications, hosted 15 events and reached a record high of more than 2 million pageviews on our web sites.

Given the increasing demand for information and knowledge, generated from rigorous, impartial policy research, we believe the IRPP’s future is bright. Our next President & CEO will play a central role in capitalizing on the IRPP’s strengths and its long-standing, comparative advantage as a pan-Canadian think tank. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference, supporting research that will inform debate on current and emerging policy issues facing Canadians and their governments.
