The Linden School invites nominations and applications for the position of Principal. The Principal of The Linden School will be a passionate educator who will lead and inspire a faculty and staff of twenty-five and a student community of approximately 125. The Principal is a hands-on leader dedicated to the School’s mission of feminist pedagogy and its values and strength of a girl-centred education.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the new Principal will be guided by the mission and values of The Linden School and will provide academic, administrative, and operational leadership of the School on all matters as they relate to its stakeholders including students, parents, faculty, staff, the Board of Trustees and other important community members. Decision-making at The Linden School is a highly collaborative and consultative process, and the Principal will invite input, listen actively and patiently, and will be attuned to the needs of others, especially the students, faculty, and staff.
The ideal candidate must derive joy from having an active and engaged presence in the school and community and will bring demonstrated innovative classroom and administrative leadership experience from within the public or independent school system. This experience will have been gained ideally in both elementary and high school levels. The Principal will possess leadership skills for supporting a growing school and will bring a high level of energy, empathy, contagious enthusiasm, authentic curiosity and is a life-learner. Alignment with The Linden School’s mission and culture will be of paramount importance. Imagination, a ready sense of humour, dedication, flexibility, open-mindedness, an open-door policy, and a collaborative approach will prove essential to join this unique school. The Principal will demonstrate significant experience engaging in an anti-oppression framework, including direct action in equity and social justice issues from feminist and anti-racist lens.

The Principal
The key opportunities and challenges for the Principal will be to:

lead and support initiatives in marketing and retention to grow the student population to full enrolment of approximately 140 students at the current location.

build on the strengths of the existing pedagogy and curriculum by fostering the development of innovative directions in the school’s program, expansion of the school’s inclusive social justice/anti oppression-based curriculum and best feminist pedagogy practices.

provide, in collaboration and consultation with the Associate Principals, leadership in a distributed leadership model which enhances and develops a cohesive, professional environment while being able to make clear and timely administrative decisions.

advance the development of a culture which attracts and retains Linden mission and culture-based teaching innovation.

work with community members to build vibrant and active networks of alumni, families and/or guardians, students, and the greater community.

in partnership with the Board of Trustees, the Associate Principals, faculty, and staff, to advocate for the school’s recognition in the community as a leader in girls’ education and in the promotion of equity in all aspects of the school’s program and structure.

work in collaboration with the Board of Trustees and relevant faculty and staff to envision and develop a plan that best supports the School’s program needs.
Specific Responsibilities

The Principal will ensure that the mission of the School is the foundation of its short-term and long-term strategic goals and that the mission is incorporated into the daily operations of the School.

They will establish and maintain a School culture that is founded upon the School’s mission and encourages all stakeholders, including students, staff, and faculty to be innovative and creative in their daily work in order to advance feminist, anti-oppressive, socially - just pedagogy and practices.

They will champion the School’s successes both internally and externally; speak at events about the unique nature of the School and its operations; ensure that all members of the School community are fully informed through effective communication about the latest news, policies and procedures, events and activities of the School.

They will proactively identify and collaborate with community partners, organizations and researchers to promote the School, to advance its mission and to encourage those community members to participate in School initiatives. This will include engagement with former community members, including former students, to encourage them to remain in contact with the current School community.
