A highly respected, credible and proven team leader committed to the progressive modernization of the Service in response to the evolving nature of policing including through a dedication to talent management, succession planning and the development of future leaders.
Experience as a sworn police officer and a graduate of the Ontario Police College, or with an ability to achieve the required equivalency to serve as a Chief of Police under the Police Services Act.
Broad and significant operational policing experience with a demonstrated ability to drive innovation and change while delivering on community safety priorities in the context of a diverse Region undergoing significant change and growth.
Demonstrably committed to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, demonstrates an ability to respect and honour the diverse communities WRPS serves by embracing collaborative partnerships and community engagement that strengthens public safety and community wellbeing.
A big picture thinker with a deep understanding of the trends and emerging issues in community safety and wellbeing, and a reputation for leading proactive change in this space. A demonstrated track record of delivering new, progressive community safety and policing reform initiatives with proven and sustained success.
A proven ability to continue to enhance a Service’s reputation as a leader in community safety and wellbeing in an environment subject to significant public and governmental scrutiny.
A strong understanding of the legislative and regulatory responsibilities required of a Chief of Police in the Province of Ontario.
A community builder with a proven sensitivity to urban and rural policing dynamics as well the strength of political acuity, diplomacy and sound judgment to meaningfully and authentically engage at all levels.
Demonstrated organizational management and administrative law enforcement leadership credibility including strong financial management skills and a track record of identifying opportunities for efficiency and innovation.
Formal education at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels in a relevant discipline combined with a track record of progressive senior leadership experience ideally gained within a small to mid-sized municipal, regional, provincial or national service.
Other advanced education commensurate with the management needs of an organization similar in size and complexity to the Waterloo Regional Police Service is an asset.
