Essence of the Opportunity

The North Vancouver School District ​is situated upon the unceded traditional territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Na​tion and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. The North Vancouver School District expresses its gratitude to the Coast Salish people and we value the opportunity to learn, share and grow on this traditional territory.

North Vancouver School District No.44 (“The District” or “NVSD”) is part of the Metro Vancouver area and spans both the City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver. The district is located immediately north of the City of Vancouver, across the Burrard Inlet. The two municipalities have a combined population of approximately 138,000, according to the 2016 census.

The North Vancouver School District provides world-class instruction and a rich diversity of engaging programs across 25 elementary schools and seven secondary schools to inspire success for every student and bring communities together to learn, share and grow. ​​​With 16,000 students, their parents and guardians, and more than 2,500 staff, there is a strong sense of community across the District.

The North Vancouver School District is governed by the North Vancouver Board of Education, comprised of seven elected trustees. The District has an annual budget of approximately $206 million for 2021/22.

The Superintendent, as the Chief Executive Officer of the District, is responsible to the Board of Education for the overall leadership, educational outcomes, and general management of the affairs of NVSD. The Superintendent advises the Board, communicates emerging trends in education, recommends actions on current issues, and ensures NVSD policies and programs result in the attainment of the Board’s strategic goals and objectives. In addition, the Superintendent is responsible for supervising the requirements of the provincial School Act and Regulations while providing leadership in administration and instructional programs to continually cement NVSD as an educational leader and employer of choice.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished and respected educator who is currently in a district level, executive leadership role and brings a track record of success at all levels of the K-12 public education system. Highly relational, innovative, progressive and inclusive the successful candidate is a champion of the public school system and committed to fostering high performing, inclusive, student centred learning environments. The Superintendent will also be characterized as politically astute, financially judicious, and a collaborative leader.
