The Independent Contractors and Businesses Association (ICBA) has been the voice of BC’s construction industry for over 40 years and advocates for a strong and open construction sector and for the investment, jobs and opportunity that flow from a growing economy. The Association represents more than 2,200 members and clients; is one of the leading third-party providers of group health and retirement benefits in BC; and, is the single largest sponsor of apprentices in the province. ICBA undertakes public policy research and advocacy initiatives focused on the construction sector, responsible resource development, and a strong economy.
ICBA is focused on delivering services to its members in three areas - business advocacy, workforce development and benefit services, which operates under ICBA Benefits Services Ltd. (“BSL”). ICBA has locations in Prince George, Fort St. John and Calgary to serve its members and clients located in nearly every province in Canada. The ICBA Board of Directors is comprised of a strong mix of seasoned construction professionals who either own some of the most well-known construction companies in BC or who are senior executives in the largest construction companies in Canada.
The benefit services division has a team of approximately 20 professionals, working in BC and Alberta that work with over 2,000 businesses across the country and provide benefits to over 50,000 employees. This complex division is highly profitable and has grown significantly over the past number of years. BSL provides employers with employee benefits, including medical, dental, accidental death and dismemberment, life insurance, retirement benefits, and third-party administration services. To ensure that the BSL platform continues to grow and to effectively meet the needs of its customers, BSL has made significant investments IT over the past few years and views this as both an operational and strategic imperative going forward.
The Board’s commitment to driving value for its members has resulted in a strategic decision to recruit an experienced executive from the insurance industry to take on the role of Senior Vice President, Insurance (“SVP”). The successful candidate will be given the mandate to drive top and bottom-line growth through the development and implementation of a sales and marketing strategy that delivers on a well-developed value proposition to members and like-minded, free enterprise business owners who understand that employee benefits are one of the most important factors in attracting and retaining employees. To underpin this mandate, the SVP must provide vision and leadership to the team and ensure the pricing and financials behind the programs are sustainable and meet the needs of both the organization and its members.
This is a tremendous opportunity for an entrepreneurial, business-minded, insurance leader who can define a compelling value proposition and develop and implement a strategic plan. ICBA is looking for a leader who has their finger on the pulse of the industry to capitalize on the opportunities that exist as a result of the major industry consolidations that have happened over the last five years.
