Boyden is pleased to share the appointment news of Mark Pearmain, a recruitment led by Craig Hemer

Surrey, BC - Nov 10, 2021

The Surrey Board of Education is pleased to announce that Mark Pearmain has been selected to fill the position of Superintendent of Schools/CEO for the Surrey School District.

Mark brings with him a wealth of leadership experience in the education sector and is currently the Superintendent of the North Vancouver School District. He has a history of strong relationships with Indigenous leaders, Ministry staff, and local municipal representatives, as well as a deep passion to support the learning of all children.

"We are very pleased to welcome Mark to Surrey Schools," said Laurie Larsen, Chair of the Surrey Board of Education. "There is no question that in our interviews with him we heard and saw the qualities that we feel are necessary to continue our important work as a district."

The Board of Education sought input from various stakeholders in developing the criteria for the Superintendent role and repeatedly heard about the value of strong relationships and a need to continue to support Surrey's vision for learning called Learning by Design. The Board also heard how much our partners value Surrey's leadership – not only in the Metro Vancouver region, but across the province, due to our size and ongoing growth.

The Superintendent position in Surrey Schools emerged due to the pending retirement of Dr. Jordan Tinney. The Board will now begin its transition process. Dr. Tinney will continue in his role until the transition is complete, likely close to spring break.
