Founded in 1908, the University opened its doors in 1915. Over the past 20 years, UBC researchers have also created 284 spin-off companies that are a result of the university's innovation ecosystem, which aims to turn research discoveries into real-world products, services, and therapies.
The University boasts 8 Nobel laureates, 75 Rhodes Scholars including 4 in the last 5 years, 23 3M National Teaching Fellows, 313 Royal Society of Canada Fellows, 3 Canadian prime ministers, and 66 Olympic medals won by varsity athletes, including 19 gold medals.
