Boyden is pleased to share the appointment news of Dr. Jeffrey Schiffer, a recruitment co-led by Nick Chambers and Alain Pescador
Toronto, ON - Jan 8, 2026
At a time when improving outcomes for children and young people in and from government care requires both sustained investment and lasting change, Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada (CAFC) is entering its next chapter.
The CAFC Board of Directors has appointed Dr. Jeffrey Schiffer as the organization’s next President & Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2026.
This appointment reflects the strength of CAFC today and the Board’s confidence in the organization’s ability to continue delivering impact through its core fundraising work, while also deepening its role as a partner and influencer in advancing long-term change for children, youth, and families involved with the child welfare system.
“CAFC has built a strong foundation as a national fundraiser and trusted partner,” said Dan Barclay, Board Chair. “As we look ahead, the Board was clear that the next phase of our work calls for leadership that can build on that strength—deepening partnerships, strengthening influence, and helping advance the systems solutions young people need. Jeff is well positioned to lead that evolution with confidence and care.”
Jeff currently serves as the Foundation’s Chief Impact Officer and is well known across the organization and sector. He played a central role in co-authoring CAFC’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, Generation Impact, which builds on the Foundation’s strong fundraising leadership while expanding how CAFC works with partners to invest in solutions, share learning, and influence change that improves outcomes for young people across Canada.
With more than 15 years of experience advancing outcomes for children, youth, and families, Jeff brings leadership grounded in evidence, collaboration, and partnership. Prior to joining CAFC, he led Native Child and Family Services of Toronto, working closely with community, philanthropic, and government partners to support children, youth, and families. He holds a PhD from Columbia University, along with executive training from Harvard Business School.
“Jeff’s leadership reflects both a deep understanding of CAFC’s mission and a clear commitment to the people and partnerships that make our work possible,” said Valerie McMurtry, President & CEO. “I have great confidence in his ability to steward the Foundation’s fundraising strength while helping carry our impact forward in thoughtful and meaningful ways.”
To ensure continuity and stability, Valerie McMurtry will continue to serve as President & CEO through March 31, 2026. Jeff will work closely with Valerie during a structured transition period before formally assuming the role on April 1. Following her term as CEO, Valerie will continue to support CAFC as Special Advisor to the Board.
CAFC’s mission and commitment to partners, donors, and young people remain unchanged. The organization will continue to mobilize philanthropic leadership in support of children and youth, while strengthening its ability to influence policy, practice, and systems in collaboration with key partners across the country.
“I’m honoured to step into this role at a moment of both strength and possibility for CAFC,” said Jeff Schiffer. “I look forward to building on the Foundation’s strong fundraising legacy, listening deeply to partners and young people, and working together to advance outcomes and opportunities for children and youth across Canada.”
