Summerside’s City Council has appointed Gordon MacFarlane to Chief Administrative Officer effective immediately after serving as the Deputy CAO and Director of Human Resources and Legal Affairs for 10 years.

MacFarlane, a graduate of Dalhousie Law and a lifelong Summerside resident has played a vital role within the senior leadership team with the City since 2006 providing guidance and strategic direction to all municipal departments.

“MacFarlane is an excellent fit for the CAO position as he has been a senior leader and key member of our City for a number of years,” commented Mayor Bail Stewart. “We are confident in Gordon’s ability as a strategic advisor to city council and provide strategic direction to staff while leading the organization into the future.”

MacFarlane has been an engaged and involved community leader over the years and comes with plenty of leadership and board governance experience:

“We are thrilled to have Gordon accept the role of CAO for our City and we are certain his experience and broad skill set will mean success for our City,” mentioned Councillor Carrie Addams. “Gordon’s knowledge of the Community coupled with his passion for Summerside will certainly benefit the strategic direction and path forward for Summerside,” added Adams.

MacFarlane has resided in Summerside for the entirety of his professional career and is the father of two boys, Matt and Evan.

The City of Summerside would like to welcome Gordon MacFarlane as Chief Administrative Officer and wish him the best of luck in his new role.
