Executive Brief

Director, Supply Chain Optimization
Port of Vancouver

September 2021

Essence of the Opportunity

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (the "port") is responsible for the stewardship of federal port lands at the Port of Vancouver. Its mandate is to enable Canada’s trade through the Port of Vancouver, while protecting the environment and considering local communities. The Port is governed by an independent Board of Directors and is accountable to the federal minister of transport under the Canada Marine Act.

Employing almost 500 people, the Port operates in an environment that has a much more complex strategic agenda than its headcount alone would indicate. As one of the world’s most diversified ports and a significant part of British Columbia’s and Canada’s dynamic gateway for trade and tourism, the Port of Vancouver generates an estimated $9.7 billion in GDP and represents a major economic force that underpins the strength of the Canadian economy through international trade.

The Port is seeking a Director, Supply Chain Optimization (the Director), who will be responsible for leading the Port’s collection, processing, and analysis of data from numerous sources and the development of recommendations and initiatives to leverage this information to optimize the flow of goods for international trade. The Director will ensure the Port’s data processing systems and team enable rich analyses and will work with supply chain stakeholders to maximize the Port’s access to useful data.

The ideal candidate is a technology leader with a track record of success in enhancing supply chain processes and strategies for a complex, commercial operation. A data-driven change manager with cross-functional knowledge, candidates will have the demonstrated ability to work across an organization to facilitate progressive improvements to supply chain processes.  Able to develop and manage partnerships, synthesize, and communicate data trends, understand various perspectives, and evolve issues that drive meaningful impact to an organization. A strong and effective communicator with the ability to interface and collaborate with stakeholders, including all levels of business, government, and the public. Ethical and effective decision-making, planning, initiative, resiliency, and digital innovation are required to advance operational excellence.

This is a compelling opportunity to join a high performing team and world class organization in promoting positive and lasting change supporting a mandate and activities that are nation building.

Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is dedicated to employment equity and a workplace reflective of the diversity of its community.
