Josh Lee
Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, Trilith Institute
Josh Lee is an award-winning educator, entrepreneur, and media industry leader with nearly 20 years of experience. As co-founder and COO of Trilith Institute, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, he’s on a mission to cultivate the next generation of creators and storytellers. Since its launch in 2022, Lee has led Trilith’s rapid growth, expanding the organization from a small team to more than 20 experts in global entertainment and higher education, all committed to building a dynamic talent ecosystem in Georgia, positioning the state as a leader in the entertainment industry.
Josh’s journey began in his hometown of Atlanta, where he launched his media career as an intern at CNBC, later moving into roles at CNN and Headline News. After honing his skills in media production, Josh ventured into entrepreneurship in 2007, founding a successful video production company in Washington, DC. His client list read like a who’s who of political figures, including Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, and John Kerry. Shortly after going into business for himself, Josh co-founded tech startup BidZilla, and then turned a longtime hobby into a lucrative venture: he became a professional poker player, ranking 16th globally.
Returning to his roots in media in 2011, Josh revitalized the broadcast video production program at Northview High School in Atlanta, winning Teacher of the Year and helping his students earn state and national film championships. His passion for working with students deepened during his tenure as Station Manager for Fulton County Schools Television (FCSTV), where he served from 2014 to 2018. There, he launched and led an award-winning experiential internship program that connected students from across the district to real-world opportunities at major media outlets such as NBC and NPR. As Executive Director of all FCSTV content, he mentored student interns in professional media production while overseeing the live-streaming of key county events and directing original programming. His innovative approach helped inspire a new generation of creators while elevating the district’s visibility and engagement through student-led storytelling.
In 2017, Lee joined the Georgia Film Academy (GFA), where he led efforts to scale film education across the state, developing curricula and training over 550 educators. Under his guidance, GFA expanded to serve more than 15,000 students, created over 1,500 internships, and launched Georgia’s first Esports program, further solidifying its reputation as a leader in both film and gaming education.
Since joining Trilith Institute in 2022, Josh has been a key visionary, spearheading transformative educational initiatives designed to empower the next generation of creators in the entertainment industry. By fostering strategic partnerships, developing cutting-edge curricula, and leveraging his deep expertise in both media and education, he is helping shape the future of storytelling. Beyond his role at Trilith, Josh also serves as Chief Operating Officer of Content Talent South, a company he co-founded with Jeffrey Stepakoff. In this capacity, he champions emerging creatives, amplifying their voices within Georgia’s flourishing entertainment landscape.
Josh holds a BA in Media Studies and Journalism from Mercer University, a Master’s degree in Instructional Design & Technology from Georgia State, and an MBA from the University of Mississippi. He continued his leadership journey through Harvard University’s Credential of Leadership, Impact, and Management in Business (CLIMB) program.
Active in the community, Josh serves on the Board of Directors for Hope Givers, where he supports strategic planning for Emmy-award-winning content aimed at improving health, equity, and well-being. He is also a board member of the Media Education Foundation of Georgia (MEFGA), where he helps connect students, educators, and industry leaders through certification programs and job opportunities. In 2025, Josh was honored as a member of the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 40 Under 40, a recognition of his remarkable leadership and enduring commitment to youth empowerment, media education, and innovation.
