BCIT Appoints New Executive Director, Global Partnerships

Burnaby, BC - Mar 12, 2025 

The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) is pleased to appoint Derek Lemieux will be joining BCIT as Executive Director, Global Partnerships.  This key position will be the lead in Global Partnerships for BCIT. including all externally facing international activities for BCIT including student recruitment, global mobility and International Credential Evaluation Service.

Derek Lemieux is an accomplished Senior International Officer.  He brings diverse leadership experiences leading strategic global engagement and international initiatives. He has led and participated in committees and working groups to address issues of internationalization in higher education with provincial and national governments, Canadian Bureau for International Education, Colleges and Institutes Canada and UNESCO-UNEVOC.

Derek also brings experience leading teams responsible for business development, new venture creation, work integrated learning and applied research. Returning to British Columbia, Derek maintains strong ties throughout the province, having built Coast Mountain College’s inaugural international education department and international strategy in 2016. He was recognized with the British Columbia Council for International Education Rising Star in International Education Award in 2017.

Derek holds a Business Administration – Marketing Diploma from Algonquin College, Bachelor of Arts from University of Ottawa, Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Royal Roads University, and Instructional Design and Human Resource Development Graduate Certificates from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
