Executive Brief

Director of Development
Mustard Seed Communities

Mustard Seed Communities

Founded in 1978, Mustard Seed Communities (MSC) is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to caring for the most vulnerable populations throughout Jamaica, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Zimbabwe and Malawi. MSC provides loving and lifelong care to over 600 children and adults with disabilities, children affected by HIV, and young mothers in crisis. In addition, MSC manages sustainable agriculture initiatives and provides education, nutrition, and vocational training to marginalized communities. MSC is a faith-based organization, inspired by the healing and caring ministry of Jesus Christ.

MSC has an annual budget of over $8M and is growing steadily with a committed base of donors throughout the United States.

Rooted in Love, Growing in Dignity

Like a tiny mustard seed that grows into a strong, sheltering tree, MSC's homes provide holistic care that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit of individuals with disabilities and children affected by HIV who have been abandoned. Rooted in love and the healing ministry of Christ, MSC offers medical care, therapy, education, and spiritual enrichment – ensuring each person is empowered and given the opportunity to flourish.

Caring Sharing Training Spirituality

MSC – Executive Leadership

Mustard Seed Communities is guided by a dedicated team of compassionate leaders who bring a wealth of expertise and commitment to its mission. Under the visionary leadership of Founder Monsignor Gregory Ramkissoon, MSC's Executive Team comprises individuals with diverse backgrounds and a shared passion for serving the most vulnerable populations worldwide. Together, MSC's leadership team strives to uphold the founding principles of Caring, Sharing, Training, and Spirituality, steering Mustard Seed Communities toward a future of continued growth, impact, and positive change.

Monsignor Gregory Ramkissoon
Founder, Mustard Seed Communities

In 1978, responding to the heart-wrenching reality of children with disabilities abandoned on the streets of Jamaica, Monsignor Gregory Ramkissoon founded Mustard Seed Communities (MSC). Witnessing the marginalized families’ struggle to provide for these children, Monsignor Gregory took decisive action. Identifying unused land, he gathered support from friends and secured funding to establish the first Mustard Seed home in Kingston, offering refuge to those in desperate need.

Born in Trinidad, West Indies, as the fifth of 13 children, Monsignor Gregory Ramkissoon holds degrees in Urban Planning, Philosophy, and Theology from Boston College. Ordained as a Catholic priest in 1984, he felt a calling to address poverty in developing countries. What began as a small home for a handful of children has evolved into a network of homes, schools, and small businesses across Jamaica, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Zimbabwe, and Malawi. Mustard Seed Communities, guided by Monsignor Gregory’s vision, remains dedicated to nurturing faith among the impoverished through diverse social initiatives.

Recognizing his impactful contributions, on July 22, 2009, the Most Rev. Donald Reece recommended to the Pope that Father Gregory Ramkissoon be elevated to the status of Monsignor. In July 2009, he was named Rev. Monsignor Gregory Ramkissoon O.J., C.D., Papal Chaplain. On August 6, 2010, he received the Order of Jamaica, the country’s fourth-highest award. In 2011, Msgr. Ramkissoon was appointed Vicar General within the Archdiocese of Kingston, Jamaica. His tireless dedication continues to shape Mustard Seed Communities’ mission and inspire positive change globally.
