Living in Burnaby, BC

The City of Burnaby is located on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), and kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Peoples.

Centrally located in Metro Vancouver, Burnaby is a dynamic, connected city that has grown into a leading economic and cultural hub in British Columbia. As the third-largest city in the province, Burnaby is home to about 263,000 residents and continues to evolve with a balanced mix of vibrant urban centres, thriving employment districts and world-class green spaces.

Often described as Vancouver’s energetic neighbour, Burnaby offers many of the same advantages — mountain views, coastal access and multicultural vibrancy — with a distinct identity rooted in innovation, sustainability and smart growth. Its location at the geographic heart of the Lower Mainland means unparalleled access to the broader region via major highways and the SkyTrain’s Expo and Millennium lines. These rapid transit lines connect key town centres Metrotown, Brentwood and Lougheed, all of which have transformed into modern mixed-use neighbourhoods.

Burnaby is a centre for knowledge, talent and technology. It is home to Simon Fraser University’s main campus on Burnaby Mountain and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), one of Canada’s leading polytechnic institutions. The city’s public education system, operated by School District 41, supports a diverse student body with innovative programming, including adult and international education options.

Economically, Burnaby is on an ambitious trajectory. Major employers in the technology, clean energy, life sciences and film sectors are well established, and new economic development strategies are unlocking opportunities for future investment and growth. Headquarters and operations of companies like Electronic Arts, Ballard Power Systems, and STEMCELL Technologies, are based in Burnaby, alongside a growing creative sector supported by major studios such as The Bridge Studios.

At the same time, Burnaby is committed to liveability. The city features over 25% of its land as parks and open space, including scenic destinations like Burnaby Mountain, Deer Lake Park and the Central Valley Greenway. Its community amenities, cultural facilities and environmental stewardship reflect a high standard of living that appeals to professionals and families alike.

With a blend of natural beauty, strategic location and a progressive outlook on city-building, Burnaby offers a unique opportunity for executives seeking a future-forward place to live and lead. As the city charts a course toward 2050, it continues to redefine urban excellence — making it not only a great place to work, but a great place to call home.
