Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and sitting on the company’s Executive Team (ELT), the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for providing enterprise-wide financial leadership to support ABC Recycling’s long-term growth, operational excellence, and disciplined strategic expansion of the business.
This role requires a hands-on, highly strategic finance leader with deep expertise in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), multi-entity budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning. The CFO will build and lead a high-performing finance team, establish strong financial discipline, and translate complex financial data into clear insights that guide executive and shareholder decision-making.
The ideal candidate blends strong technical finance capabilities with long-term strategic thinking, business partnership, and people leadership, and is comfortable operating both at the executive level and in the details when required.
Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Strategy, FP&A & Long-Term Planning

Leads the development and execution of the company’s financial strategy, ensuring alignment with ABC Recycling’s long-term business objectives.

Owns and continuously improves the FP&A function, including:

Annual operating and capital budgets

Rolling forecasts and scenario modelling
-
Long-range (3–5 year) financial planning
-
Develops and monitors financial KPIs that clearly link operational performance to financial outcomes.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Performance Management
-
Leads the company’s annual budgeting and KPI-setting process, ensuring rigor, accountability, and cross-functional alignment.

Establishes best-in-class forecasting processes that enable proactive decision-making and early identification of risks and opportunities.

Partners closely with Operations and other business leaders to challenge assumptions, improve cost discipline, and optimize profitability.

Leadership & Team Development

Leads, mentors, and develops the Finance team, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Builds scalable finance capabilities, including succession planning, skills development, and role clarity as the business grows.

Acts as a trusted coach and advisor to senior leaders across the organization.

Strategic Growth & Enterprise Value Creation

Acts as a key strategic partner to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team in shaping and executing ABC Recycling’s long-term growth strategy.

Evaluates and supports growth opportunities including organic expansion, geographic or market diversification, margin improvement initiatives, and operational scale.

Assesses financial, capital, and risk implications of growth initiatives, ensuring disciplined decision-making and sustainable value creation.

Provides financial leadership and challenges to ensure growth initiatives are aligned with ABC Recycling’s strategic priorities and values.

Supports and, where required, leads financial due diligence and negotiations for acquisitions, joint ventures, and major commercial agreements.

Financial Operations, Reporting & Controls

Oversees all accounting, finance, and related systems functions, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting.

Leads monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external reporting processes.

Reviews corporate tax filings (T2 and U.S. returns) prepared by external advisors (e.g., KPMG).

Strengthens financial controls, policies, and governance to support a growing, multi-entity organization.

Capital Structure, Treasury & Transactions
-
Owns enterprise-wide cash flow forecasting and working capital management, ensuring liquidity to support operations, growth initiatives, and capital investments.

Establishes disciplined cash management practices across the business, including inventory, receivables, payables, and capital deployment.

Actively manages the company’s capital structure, liquidity, and banking relationships.

Leads negotiations related to operating lines, debt facilities, leases, and financing arrangements.

Systems, Change & Business Partnership
-
Leads the assessment, selection, and future implementation of enterprise financial systems, including the ERP, beginning with a discovery and requirements-definition phase.

Partners cross-functionally to define system requirements, business processes, and change impacts prior to system selection and implementation.

Drives change management initiatives that improve financial visibility, discipline, and decision-making across the organization.

Serves as a collaborative business partner to executives, shareholders, and external stakeholders.

Legal & Enterprise Risk Management

Provides executive oversight of enterprise risk management, including financial, operational, regulatory, and commercial risks.

Serves as the executive lead for legal matters, partnering with external counsel on contracts, litigation, regulatory issues, and corporate governance.

Ensures appropriate insurance coverage, risk mitigation strategies, and internal controls are in place as the business grows.
