As one of BC’s largest post-secondary institutes, BCIT connects education, industry, and government to power provincial recovery and resilience.

Since 1964, the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) has provided applied education and training to individuals endeavouring to be career-ready.

At BCIT, students gain the technical skills, real-world experience, and problem-solving ability needed to embrace complexity and lead innovation in a rapidly changing workforce.

Schools and Programs

BCIT delivers programs and courses to nearly 50,000 students through six Schools. Through its unique applied education model and over 300 programs, BCIT students gain the technical skills, real-world experience, and problem-solving ability needed to embrace complexity and lead innovation. Faculty work closely with industry to deliver training, provide expert advice, and help bring ideas to market.

As a leader in applied education, BCIT offers a broad range of credentials, from microcredentials, certificates, and diplomas to Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, in applied and natural sciences, business and media, computing and IT, engineering, health sciences, and trades and apprenticeships.

A brief overview of each School:

BCIT School of Business + Media is one of the largest business and media schools in Western Canada.

School of Business + Media

One of the largest in Western Canada, the School of Business + Media offers more than 30 full-time and 90 part-time programs. Graduates have the knowledge and hands-on experience to tackle challenging business scenarios across different industries. Explore the School here

School of Computing and Academic Studies

The School of Computing and Academic Studies plays a significant role in supporting high-tech business in BC, as well as providing English-language support and academic core courses that stream into BCIT technology programs. As the largest Computing and IT education provider in Western Canada, the School of Computing and Academic Studies offers over 250 courses and 40 different programs that can be completed both full and part-time. As a leader in sustainability research, BCIT offers more than 30 applied and natural science programs that are developed with input from green industry. 

School of Construction and the Environment

As the leading contributor of trades, engineering, and applied and natural sciences professionals in the province, the School is concerned with the natural environment and the built environment—and the relationship between the two. The School offers over 77 full-time/part-time programs, over 272 part-time courses, customized training, and applied research. Explore the School here

 

BCIT offers work-integrated learning opportunities and accredited training in four areas of engineering: civil, electrical, mechanical, and mining.

School of Energy

With 45 hands-on programs to choose from, graduates of the School of Energy go on to support the technical industrial sector as electrical, chemical and mechanical engineers, industrial tradespeople, and technical writers. Explore the School here

BCIT Health Sciences students learn in innovative healthcare simulation labs equipped with the latest virtual and augmented reality technology.

School of Health Sciences

The School of Health Sciences provides industry-leading education for essential, in-demand careers in the healthcare field. Through its 32 health-related programs, BCIT offers a depth and breadth of health education unmatched by other post-secondary institutions. 

BCIT’s Burnaby campus is home to a new Health Sciences Centre that will educate and train future health care professionals to meet the growing demands of British Columbian families. Completed fall 2022, BCIT School of Health Sciences is excited to provide collaborative delivery of programs to students in this new building. Explore the School here

School of Transportation

BCIT is the only post-secondary institution in North America delivering globally recognized accreditation in transportation by air, sea, road, and rail. Their Airline and Flight Operations commercial pilot program is the fastest route to a diploma and a commercial pilot’s licence, and many of their programs feature state-of-the-art training technology—from their fleet of 20 aircraft, to a certified industrial railway, and realistic simulators for marine bridge and engine room scenarios. Learning Spaces

BCIT campuses are home to hundreds of specialized learning spaces, including classrooms, shops, labs, simulators, broadcast studios, green roofs, energy grids, forests, and waterways.

BCIT operates across five campuses in and around Vancouver.

Burnaby Campus – The largest BCIT campus is home to hundreds of specialized learning spaces, including classrooms, shops, labs, simulators, broadcast studios, green roofs, energy grids, forests, and waterways. The $7 million student plaza project will create a dynamic gateway and social hub, to include the new Health Sciences Centre and future Trades and Technology Complex.

Aerospace Technology Campus –With over 20 aircraft at the impressive 300,000 square-foot campus in Richmond, BCIT is the largest post-secondary aerospace trainer in Canada.

Annacis Island Campus – This 142,000 square-foot facility in Delta is home to heavy mechanical trades programs and the Emissions Reduction Research and Testing Hub (ERRTH), as well as a certified industrial railway.

Marine Campus – This North Vancouver waterfront campus has bridge and engine room simulators and an indoor training pool. Nautical and marine engineering students gain experience with realistic scenarios in a safe environment.

Downtown Campus – At the heart of Vancouver’s business and tech core, the Downtown Campus is home to the state-of-the-art Technology Education and Collaboration (TEC) Hub. It feels a bit like walking into the offices of a high-tech Vancouver start-up—and that’s exactly the point.

Officially welcoming students in September 2022, the BCIT Health Sciences Centre will serve as a critical hub for healthcare education in BC.

BCIT Health Sciences Centre – Burnaby Campus’s newest state-of-the-art learning space

The BCIT Health Sciences Centre is an exciting new landmark building for the Burnaby Campus and healthcare education in BC – welcoming students in September 2022. Sophisticated simulation and collaboration spaces replicate hospital workflows and better prepare students for a seamless transition into their clinical and work environments. This net-zero carbon emission performance building reinforces BCIT’s commitment to sustainability and community wellbeing—providing dynamic learning spaces to train the next generation of BC healthcare professionals.
